Donegal is a must for all divers; its rugged coastline is awash with some beautiful and spectacular dive sites. Whether it’s boat or shore diving, there are a variety of sites to suit divers of all abilities. The more experienced diver will be able to undertake many of the wrecks around the Donegal coastline, especially in the northwest region, but there are also plenty of dive sites for the less experienced diver. Explore the clear waters of the northeast Atlantic abounding in sea life with the coast of Donegal a home to a vast number of species. The diving is varied with everything from sea-caves reefs and bulligs, to sea stacks and gullies.
While diving in county Sligo, visitors will come across wonderfully quiet diving spots nestled far off the beaten track. Mullaghmore offers excellent diving sites including Skuddagh Rock. Diving around Sligo provides ample opportunities for some stunning underwater photography. The spectacular coast of Inishowen has claimed many ships through the centuries and promises an interesting dive with its plunging walls, reefs and covers, and variety of habitat.
When to go?
The dive season generally starts around March and ends around October. It is possible, of course, to dive outside of this, but due to adverse weather and sea conditions it is not appealing to everyone.
