This sandy beach on the shores of Lough Swilly is in a natural heritage area and is a key wetlands site for birds. Fahan Wood within 1km of the beach is classified as being of regional importance, noted for Oak, Hazel and Rowan.
Lisfannon is a major recreational beach for locals and particularly for day-trippers from Derry City. The beach is life guarded throughout the bathing season. This blue flag beach stretches on along the coast for over 5km, with magnificient views of Lough Swilly.
