Inishowen is the largest of the Donegal Peninsulas; it is a land that is rich in heritage and culture with a large diversity of attractions. The mysterious and unique circular fort of Grianan Ail each dominates the local landscape around Burt with the origins of the structure dating back to around 1700BC, a time of myth and legend it is said to have been built by Dagda, an ancient King of Tuatha De Dannan. Buncrana the largest town on the Peninsula boasts a 5km long sandy beach. It has a variety of shops, restaurants, pubs and accommodation. Fort Dunree is located just seven miles north of Buncrana on the Inishowen Peninsula, on a site that commands majestic views of Lough Swilly and its shorelines. The museum houses a fascinating display of military memorabilia, artefacts and an array of 20th Century guns. There is also a wildlife discovery room and over 3km of stunning walkways.
