Portrush is a wonderful seaside resort and one of the most popular ones in Northern Ireland, which is no surprise when you see the funfair rides, amusement parks, and indoor swimming attractions.
Portrush’s biggest attraction, though, is undoubtedly its proximity to the magnificent Causeway Coast and the Giant’s Causeway. The 40,000 six-sided basalt columns are a geological wonder and an absolute must-see on any visit to the area. The town enjoys panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and on bright, clear days views of Scotland may be glimpsed in the distance. Just north of Portrush, lying low in the Atlantic Ocean are the Skerries, a chain of small islands formed from cooled volcanic lava which are home to a large population of breeding seabirds.
Portrush’s beaches, West Bay, East Strand and Whiterocks are among the finest in Ireland for surfing and watersports and have enjoyed prestigious European Blue Flag status.
