Dunvegan, Isle of Skye, Highland, West Scotland

Dunvegan is the largest village on the west coast of Skye, and is a long settlement stretching several miles south from Dunvegan Castle. Village services include shops, a bakery, as well as a choice of hotels, guest houses, B&Bs, a campsite at the head of Loch Dunvegan. As well as the hotels there are several high quality places to eat, such as The Three Chimneys and The Old School Restaurant. Dunvegan Castle, as the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland is well worth a visit. It has been the stronghold of the chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years. There are some old visitor moorings.

Excellent location for wildlife with regular seal-spotting boat trips out along Loch Dunvegan from the jetty outside the castle as well as longer and less frequent sea cruises to the small islands of Mingay, Isay and Clett.
